What causes sleep apnea? You can have the obstructive variety, which is the most common; it is caused by over-relaxation of the throat muscles that block the air to your lungs. You can use a sleep apnea bedpillow, a CPAP machine or even resort to surgery to correct this condition.

These anti-snoring devices hold the neck in correct alignment and keeps the airway open while you slumber. If you sleep on your side, you can also benefit from one of these specially designed pillows, although side sleepers don’t seem to suffer as much from snoring and sleep apnea.

There are so many snoring devices on the market today, and many of them like the no-snore pillow are very helpful to those suffering from apnea. The odd shape of the apnea pillows allow your head and neck to be aligned properly and really help keep your airway open.

One technique you may use if you are a back sleeper is to use pillows to encourage you to sleep on your side. Belly pillows or small pillows between your knees compliment the cradling action of the snore pillow and will keep you comfortable on your side longer. It may take a few night to get used to the new sleeping method- don’t worry, after a few nights you will get used to the size and shape of the pillow, and will notice immediately that you are sleeping better and awake more refreshed and alert.

These pillows are not right for everyone. Your condition might be severe to require the use of a CPAP machine or even surgery. If you are severely overweight or wake up gasping for air, you may have moderate to severe sleep apnea, which should be seen by a doctor. Always consult your doctor before embarking on any treatment method for sleep apnea.

Your pillow won’t last forever, either. Like any cushioned product, the foam gets pressed down and becomes less effective over time. Replace your pillow every year for best results.
